Sunrise Seed?s Happy Hummer?s Wildflower Mix
Happy Hummingbird Wildflower mix is a blend of __ annual and perennial wildflower varieties that provide food for hummingbirds. Calling all hummingbirds! If this mix of showy, bright blooms doesn?t catch their attention, they haven't arrived in your town yet. ____ different varieties, each an irresistable invitation to nibble in summer's sweet nectar. 1 Packet will cover approximately 14 Sq. Ft. Varieties included in this 15 gram packet are: Catchfly, Dwarf Columbine, Eastern Columbine, Four-O'clock, Foxglove, Globe Gilia, Perennial Lupine, Rocket Larkspur, Rocky Mountain Penstemon, Spurred Snapdragon, Tussock Bellflower, Nasturtium (A), Lupine (P), Zinnia (A), Hollyhock 'Dark colors' (A), Butterfly Weed (P), Hummingbird Sage (P), Phlox Annual (A), Rocket Larkspur (A), Spider Flower (A), Godetia (A), Bee Balm (P), Columbine Shooting Star (P), Penstemon Tubular Bells (A), Red-Hot Poker (P), Standing Cypress (B), Foxglove (B), Flowering Tobacco (A) nicotina. Culture: First prepare the soil - remove weeds, work in organic material, level the soil to a desirable grade. Thoroughly mix seed with some material that looks different than the native soil - for example, sand - and spread evenly over area to be planted. (sand will make it easier to tell where you spread the seed) With a rake, scratch in sand/seed mixture to depth no greater than 1/4". Water lightly. Water: Seeds must be kept moist until the majority of the seeds emerge. This may mean watering daily, twice a day for a short period of time, or every other day. Water just enough water to moisten the soil surface containing the seeds (top 1/4"). Once the seed emerges, water less frequently and a little deeper. Special Care: Weeds are probably the biggest enemy of your new flower area. As the seeds begin to germinate, pull the seedlings you know are weeds. Continue to pull weeds on a regular basis as your flower area continues to grow. Seeding Info: If you have a vacant lot, slope, field or a large bare area where you want to sow seeds, here are some suggestions. If you happen to garden in an area with very fertile soil and perfect weather conditions, "throwing out the seed" will produce desirable results. However most of us have to put more effort into establishing a "natural" flower patch. WHEN TO SOW: Perennials generally need a cold dormant period before germinating and annual seedlings will not survive cold climate frosts - therefore the ideal time to plant is early enough to take advantage of cool, moist weather, but late enough to avoid killing frosts. IN COOL CLIMATES with a freezing winter, plant annuals, perennials and mixes in the spring, as soon as possible after the danger of frost has passed. The latest spring planting date should be mid-to late June - after that time, conditions will probably be too warm and dry for good germination and establishment of perennials. IN MILD CLIMATES sow seed during the cooler months, generally October through March. This will ensure an early display of annuals in the spring, and cool weather for germination and establishment of perennials.
