Perennial (USDA zones 1-6). Blooms in late spring. 2'-4' tall. Full sun. Hardy Oriental Poppies have large 4"- 8" crepe paper-like blooms in vibrant shades of orange, pink, red, salmon, and white. This will be the most dramatic flower in your late spring garden! Flowers last 2-3 weeks. Extend bloom period by picking spent blossoms. In cool climates, Oriental Poppy foliage will die back in the summer after blooming and reappear in fall. Mix with summer and fall blooming annuals to fill in beds between bloom periods. Grow as an annual in USDA zone 7 and warmer. Poppies are legendary in many cultures throughout history. Egyptians felt Poppies were essential in burial rituals to assure life after death. Mixture of double and semi-double picotees and bi-colours in pinks; rose, salmon to coral. height 32 inches. Approximately 50 seeds per package. Annual Start inside 4-6 weeks before last frost in peat pots. Cover seed lightly and provide darkness. Poppies dislike transplanting, best direct seeded once the soil warms up to 70?F, or in early summer. To plant, cover seed with 1/8 inch soil. Transplant or thin plants to 10-12 inches apart in a full sun location. Do not overwater or fertilize. Deadhead regularly. Poppies make good cutflowers if you singe the cut ends with a candle flame to stop the flow of sap.

Papaver Orientale (Beauty of Livermere) - Deep, blood red ruffled blooms with a black cone like center top the short, wiry stems on this dramatic poppy. Plant in mixed beds, alongside other sun loving perennials so as to mask the withering foliage late in the season. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Watering can be reduced after establishment. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer. Gardeners in Zones 3 through 7 are the lucky ones who can grow this tall beauty Orientale Poppy for use in borders and as cut flowers. In warmer climates, the flowers do not open properly. ~Poppy Peony Salmon~


Wonderful blooms of creamy salmon adorn this wonderful addition to any flower garden! Papaver Paeoniflorum is actually a type of poppy, however, these flowers are often referred to as Peony Poppies. They burst forth blooms which are a full 4 to 5 inches across. The blooms arise on erect, sturdy stems on plants 32 - 40 inches tall and about 12 inches wide in the sunny garden. Even when the salmon colored flowers of this peony are beginning to fade, the interest doesn't end after the long summer bloom season.
