Nicotina "Flowering Tobacco"
Lovely, summer annuals. Best used in mixed flower plantings or in mass plantings. Fertile, well-drained soil. Sun or shade. Makes an impressive statement in the garden! Start these seeds indoors in late winter and set them out when the warm spring temperatures arrive, spacing plants a foot or so apart. They will bloom reliably all summer, not resting until the cold weather sets in. And their fragrance will fill the garden, generously lending its sweetness to nearby unscented annuals. Hummingbirds, butterflies, and humans all love the fragrant, star-shaped flowers of this old-time favorite. The big, showy plants are perfect for informal mixed borders. Blooms in shades of purple, pink, lime-green and white from summer to frost. (Note: All parts of plant are poisonous if eaten.) Days to Sprout 10 - 14.
Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost, planting 2 seeds per pot or cell. Transplant to the garden 18 inches apart after the last frost. Do not cover seeds.
Remove faded blossoms to prolong flowering.
