Four O'Clocks
Also Meraviglia, Bushy plant with branched stalks bearing numerous funnel shaped flowers which open at sunset and close again in the morning. Flowers remain shut on cloudy days, and open late in the afternoon on sunny days. Once you start four o'clocks, they -will generally re-seed themselves, and provide blooms every summer. An old fashioned favorite. Start indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost or direst sow after the last frost . Prefer sun.
Annual. Plant this easy-to-grow, old-time favorite near a patio or window and enjoy the fragrance of its red, yellow and white, trumpet-shaped flowers. And each afternoon when the flowers open, hummingbirds may drop by for a snack. Blooms summer to late fall. Days to Sprout 7 - 10,
Plant seeds outdoors after the last frost in well-drained - even sandy - soil compost. (Seeds may be started indoors in peat pots 6 weeks earlier.) Sow seeds, cover lightly with soil and keep moist until seedlings are established.
Fertilize monthly. After flowering, plants reseed themselves. Fleshy roots can be dug and stored in the fall.
