(Nepeta cataria) Catnip is a multi purpose plant. The tea is very pleasant and has a lemon-mint flavor and fragrance. Catnip is also a recreational herb for cats. Toys stuffed with catnip will provide them with hours of entertainment. Catnip is hardy and grows in almost any soil. Average Count: 850 Seeds Perennial 1' to 3' Sun or Light Shade. Sow in early spring, 2 to 4 weeks before the last frost. Plant as late as 2 months before first fall frost. When to Sow Inside: 6 weeks before last frost. Press seeds onto surface of soil. Seed Spacing: 2" Days to Emerge: 10 to 15 Thinning: When 1" tall, thin to 1' apart.

Why grow a pepper as an ornamental? Because ornamental peppers, particularly this one, may be the most beautiful plant in your flower garden. Can be grown in the garden or grown in a pot to be brought inside when the temperatures begin to drop in the fall. White, light/medium/dark green variegated foliage with purple veins set off the deep purple flowers and dark purple peppers which turn to red. You won't regret trying this unique variety. For longer enjoyment, plant it in a pot that can be brought indoors in the fall. Height: 13" Exposure: Full Sun When to Sow Outside: Spring, 3 - 4 weeks after last frost, and when soil temperatures are at least 65 degrees, or outside temperatures are at least 70 degrees. Ornamental runner plant produces various shapes of graceful fruits with spots, striations and speckles of various colors. Annual. Cover a trellis, arbor or fence this summer with fast-growing vines and pick an amazing variety of colorful gourds this fall. Gourds keep well for months and make wonderful decorations and crafts. Ready to pick 90 days after planting. Days to Sprout 7 - 10. Plant seeds outdoors after the last frost in soil enriched with compost or rotted manure. (Seeds can be started indoors in 3-inch peat pots 4 weeks before transplanting.) Use plastic mulch in cool climates to retain heat in the soil. For nicely shaped gourds, grow vines on a trellis or fence. (Vines will spread 10 to 15 feet.) Fertilize monthly. Water when the top 1-inch layer of soil is dry. HARVESTING Pick gourds when vines are dry. Cut - don't pull - from the vine, leaving a 1-inch handle attached. Hang in a cool, airy place to dry for 3 to 4 weeks. Dried gourds may be waxed or varnished.
